I am playing with a programmed utility for converting color digital images to black and white. I kind of like this easy approach to getting solid black and white shots. The photo is from Kathleen's farm again.

This is an image of my brother in law, Jerry, with an old car in his pasture. I remember riding in this car when I was younger, with all the kids. It was a lot of fun when we were all together, hollering and laughing.
One of the reasons we went to La Cygne was for a photo assignment from CJ's digital photography class. Jerry is always patient when we con him into posing, and is a really good model.

We went to my sister Kathleen's farm near La Cygne yesterday, April 14th. It had snowed the night before, and rained for a couple of days. The fields were very muddy. I shot one picture of the buildings on the farm to play with the 'rule of thirds' in terms of balancing sky, land, and buildings. It would be a better picture if I removed more of the grass, but screws up the overall proportion of the photograph and I was not willing to crop out one of the out buildings. Take a look at the before shot and after crop to see what I mean. The second shot is really the better picture, but for some reason I didn't really want to crop it down. I actually could have taken a bit more out of the sky to truly get my 'thirds' in line, but we will go with this one.

The second shot was done to challenge myself with a white cow and black cow standing side by side. Getting the balance right on the photograph is really difficult. I played with it a bit, including wondering if the red contrast was too much. Notice the mud! Luckily for me, CJ was thinking ahead and brought our rubber boots. Otherwise we couldn't have walked around in the snow, puddles, and mud.

On April Fool's Day, we went to the Overland Park Arboretum. It was a windy day, but the first flowers were beginning to debut. I snapped this shot of CJ near the entrance to the park.

This was taken at Shawnee Mission Park. We got up to walk the dogs and I neglected to shave or really even comb my hair. Lesson learned when CJ has the camera at hand.

This, in a word, is what happened to March 2007. My bulldogs and I decided to sleep through the month and just wait for April.
