December 2008

Sometimes happiness is a simple as hanging out, soaking up the sun with your best friends...

We are having a brief warm up here in the heartland, but no one is fooled. Winter has arrived. In two days, the temperature will plunge into the teens. The pups have the right idea, catching the warmth of the sun while it is still around. This is their favorite morning routine. After a little breakfast, some sock-n-growl playtime, and then cuddle up for naps. Not a bad life, all in all...

Henry, normally an ardent capitalist, reacted strongly to the news that the latest recession would adversely impact Christmas for bulldogs....

Last weekend, we lost a great friend. After 70 years of marriage, Muriel Hampton passed away. We had Thanksgiving Dinner with Muriel and Olen. They drove the mile or two to their son's home on their own, as they frequently did. Muriel was not up to going outside for pictures after eating, and I just happened to be fooling around with the camera indoors. There is a lot to be said about such a life, but sometimes it is good to just remember better times and wish surviors the same. Our thoughts are with the family....

Family

I am creating a new area on the web site for family history. I may move this over to a separate gallery down the road, but I need to start somewhere. Last week my sister Kathleen and I went to Drexel to visit with Lila Jones, the family historian. We got a fair amount of information from her, but clearly this is the tip of the iceberg. There is much more to be had.

Kathleen and Lila review some of Lila's research.

I am particularly interested in family photographs of previous generations. If you have any of these, feel free to image them and sent to me. I will post them on the web. Down the line, I would like to have an interactive site where you could view the family tree, press on a name, and see all the photos and other information I have available. That is pretty ambitious and time consuming, so we will have to see.

To get your appetite up, here are three generations of Jackson. From left to right:

Peter F. and Geraldine Eva McCormick Jackson (my parents)
Peter F. and Martha Elizabeth Courtney Jackson (my grandparents)
Peter F. and Minerva Stanley Hill Jackson (my great-grandparents)

This image was labeled Soloman A. Jackson. I believe he is a brother to our great grandfather

This is a picture of my mother's father, Henry Ray McCormick. My sister Kathleen had a photocopy with some tears and imperfections which I was able to clean up a bit on the computer. While far from perfect, the restored image is much better than where we started.
